He was born in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, but moved to Ulsan Metropolitan City at a young age and grew up there.

He was a sprinter and middle- and long-distance runner during his youth and was even recorded in the Korea Athletics Federation.

He trained in Taekwondo and other sports like swimming, track and field, and fencing during his elementary school years as a gifted athlete.

Originally dreamed of becoming an athlete or guitarist but later pursued a career in the entertainment industry after being cast by SM Entertainment via Instagram DM.

Before his debut, he also considered going to Japan to study sushi, as he wasn’t sure if his dream of becoming an artist would come true.
